Margaret has had a long way to come. She was a mill mama, and for nearly a year, was so terrified that she bit when she was handled. Margaret is making great progress. She does not like to be handled, and is still fearful of touch. She will likely never be a lapdog, and will always be more comfortable with other dogs around. She now spends time in the living room with the rest of us, and is slowly getting comfortable with people. We can now bathe her without problem, but progress will be ongoing with her. She needs a family that is very patient and no fast movements. She's funny and engaged when you talk to her, and she has finally learned to play! After living most of her life in misery, her only contact with people those who took her babies away too soon, Margaret deserves a family who will give her a second chance. She is a bit of a challenge, because it's hard not to want to cuddle and comfort her. If you think your home and heart would be a fit for Margaret, please give Maggie a call and come to meet her. 22 Greyhounds just arrived at the GPI Kennel from various race tracks. We are spending the afternoon cleaning them up and inspecting them.

This is the inspiring story of the rescue of racing greyhounds from the Island of Guam after the closing of a failed dog track. In November of '08, when it became known that greyhound race dogs in desperate condition were roaming the island, none of us knew how many greyhounds were at risk, where they were, where they could go, or how they would get there, not to speak of, how the rescue mission would be paid for. What we did know, was that we had to find a way . . . . So volunteers with Guam Animals in Need embarked on an urgent mission to find the dozens of greyhounds who had been let loose or were living in deplorable conditions after the track "give-away adoption" program went into effect. Every greyhound that was found, nursed back to health and eventually boarded an airplane represented a monumental victory that lent continuing courage and determination for all that lay ahead. Forty-four trips to the airport (on both sides of the ocean) and nine months later, 155 Guam greyhounds embraced a new life, in a new land where each is a cherished member of a loving family. The task of rescuing, caring for and air-lifting 155 greyhounds 6000 miles and, then, securing a safe-haven on the US mainland presented enormous challenges. This video is, therefore, a tribute not only to the resilience of racing greyhounds, but also to the indomitable spirit of the people whose lives are dedicated to animal rescue.
